Founded in 1824 during the reign of King Rama III by Mahasakti Pol Sep, the viceroy, Wat Bowonniwet Vihara is one of Bangkok’s most important royal temples, deeply tied to Thai kingship and the Dhammayuttika Nikaya Buddhist order. The temple houses the remains of King Vajiravudh (Rama VI) and King Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). It is classified as a first-class royal temple, making it one of the most prestigious in Thailand, offering blend of history, spirituality, and royal heritage.
