Built by Lek Viriyaphan, a wealthy patron of Thai arts and culture, The Ancient City (Muang Boran), often referred to as Ancient Siam, is a sprawling cultural park in Samut Prakan, just outside Bangkok. Covering more than 200 acres, it is designed in the shape of Thailand’s map, with monuments and landmarks placed according to their real geographic locations. Visitors can wander through faithful replicas and reconstructions of Thailand’s most treasured sites: from the ruined temples of Ayutthaya and the ancient stupas of Sukhothai, to northern-style wooden houses and grand palaces.
