A visit to the "Palace Among the Gardens" will allow you to touch the colonial past of Mauritius and temporarily transport yourself back to the 19th century. Today, the museum is a monument to the unsurpassed colonial architecture of Mauritius and part of its historical heritage, and the surrounding gardens with a rich collection of plants are a true treasure of tropical nature. The history of the estate dates back to 1777. For many years it passed from hand to hand until, in 1854, it was bought by a successful entrepreneur, the enlightened agronomist Christian Ville. Simultaneously with the production of sugar, Ville began to plant a unique orchard, and his descendants continued his work. The estate still belongs to the Viye family clan. In 2010, the restoration of the palace was completed, which was carried out under the guidance of consultants and world-famous museum experts and lasted four years. After visiting the mansion, walking through the garden, you can see about 50 varieties of century-old mango trees and several types of exotic fruit trees. Behind the old orchard tree is a modern industrial-scale orchard, the fruit from which is processed here, in the estate s uitra-modern plant, without use of any artificial colors or flavors. You can also visit a small distillery where rum is produced, the bar offers a tasting of this drink, infused with various fruits and spices. You can buy your favorite products in the estate s boutiques.
