The Curepipe Botanical Garden is spread over an area of two hectares and is intersected by a river and a lake with crystal clear water. Since its inception in 1870, it has been planted with a variety of exotic and endemic plants. The garden is home to majestic palm trees, many rare latanieras and ferns, huge tambalacas, olive and mangrove trees towering among the lush vegetation. The main attraction of the botanical garden is the rarest and unique species of palm tree in the world - Hyophorbe amaricaulis. This is the only surviving specimen of this species.
